Hobby Machine Tools
Many companies make hobby machine tools for the home workshop.
When compared to their full sized cousins, these machines are fairly
inexpensive. Some of these machines can be purchased for less than $1000.
Most hobby machine tools are operated by hand. Usually the cutter is
held firmly by the machine, but the motion of the cutter is controlled
by the operator. Some of these devices use hand cranks to move the cutter
up and down, and back and forth.
Thanks to modern technology, some more expensive hobby machine tools
can be run by a personal computer. Many companies offer CNC software
for you home computer. Once this software is installed, your milling
machine can be plugged into your computer and made to create cuts that
wouldn’t be possible by hand.
